Barrington Area Council On Aging (BACOA) representative, Diane Vos Hansen (left), joined Mrs Georiga Norlin to say thank you for the gift of hearing.  Through the efforts of the Barrington Lions Club Sight and Sound Chairman, Lion Glen Engelhardt (right), Mrs Norlin wish for two hearing aids was granted through the Barrington Lions Club.  Mrs. Norlin expressed her thanks during our December 7, 2009 meeting.  Over the years, the Barrington Lions Club has worked closely with the BACOA to provide needed services to area senior citizens.

Barrington Lion John Loomis (left) receives congratulations from Lion President Curt Pulkrabek.   Lion John was recognized for his membership recuiting efforts.  The club rewarded him with the "Membership Advancement Key", an award for bringing 5 new members into the Barrington Lions Club.

Pictured are members of the Barrington Lions Club, with a check from the Barrington Village 4th of July Brat Tent Celebration.  The purpose of the Bart Tent is to provide revenue for the Barrington 4th of July fireworks.  Four major Barrington service organizations volunteer to work the Brat Tent.  Revenue left over, after paying for the fireworks and all expenses  are paid, is distributed amongst the four clubs. The Barrington Lions Club share will be used to support Lions projects such as, Barrington High School Scholarships, Boy Scout Troop 21 Eagle Scout Scholarships, Camp Lions for the Hearing  Impaired, The Cancer Wellness Center, Barrington Giving Day and other worthwhile community projects.

Barrington Boy Scout Troop 21 Eagle Scout, Michael Chan, accepts a $1,000.00 scholarship check from Barrington Lion, Steve Belknap.   Looking on, is Barrington Lions Club President, Curt Pulkrabek.  Since it's charter 75 years ago, Troop 21 has produced over 100 Eagle Scouts in it's ranks.  The Barrington Lions Club has supported Troop 21 with donations for the purchase camping and hiking equipment.  The long mutual association has producted a synergy and a win, win for both parties.  

Barrington Lion, Ed Wichman, receives a Proclamation from The Village of Barrington President, Karen Darch.  The Proclamation Plaque recognizes the many charitable programs supported by the Barrington Lions Club.  Special recognition was mentioned for the Barrington Lions Club work on the Thursday night classic car "Cruise Nights".  The Barrington Lions Club was chartered in 1925.

Kara Williams, representing The Wellness Place (Cancer Education and Support group), accepts a $1,000.00 donation check from Barrington Lions President, Curt Pulkrabek.  The Wellness Place is devoted to offering individual caregivers no charge counseling, interactive groups and the latest information on developments in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer related illness.  For further information on this wonderful group, see their web site at "WellnessPlace.org"

The Barrington Lions Club sponsored a free eye screening for Diabetic Retinopathy and Macular Degeneration Friday September 4, 2009 at Barrington Area Library. The screening was focused on people who are diabetic, have a family history of diabetes or they are 55 years of age or older. Nearly 40 individuals took advantage of the eye screening. A photograph is taken of the interior of the eye and evaluated by a retina specialist. The participants of the screening will receive the results by mail. Working behind the scenes were Barrington Lions Glenn Engelhardt, Jim Wilson and Dan Evasink

The Barrington Lions Club Assist Local “Cruise night”

Barrington Lions, Jim Wilson (left) and Ed Wichman III, assist the Barrington Village “Cruise Nights”. They help with the coordination and parking of over 100 muscle, custom. classic, exotic, antique, hotrod cars and trucks. Every Thursday night, during the summer, owners bring the vehicles to Barrington to share their love of the automobile. The Barrington Lions Club, working with other volunteers, help make Cruise Night a worthwhile event for the entire community.

Barrington Lions Club President, Tim Howard, presents Barrington High School senior, Katherine Clarke, with a $2,000.00 Barrington Lions Club College Scholarship check.  Katherine will be attending Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, Illinois majoring in chemistry, with a career goal in criminal sciences.  The Barrington Lions Club College Scholarship Fund provides $2,000.00 a year for each of Kathrine's 4 year curriculum.  Sharing the moment with Kathrine, is her mother and father, Leone and Matthew Clarke of Barrington, Illinois.

Barrington Lion, John Koenen (left), accepts the Lion of the Month Award from Lion President, Tim Howard,  Lion John received the award for his untiring work as Chairman for the Barrington Lions Club Annual Golf Outing, to be held May 11, 2009 at Chalet Hills Golf Course.  The outing is the largest fund raiser for the Barrington Lions Club.  The challenges are many, but the rewards are great.   Lion John can apply over 25 years of Lion Club experience to his assignment as he has been a Lion since 1983.   Proceeds from this charitable event help fund High School scholarships, Camp Lions for hearing impaired children and many other worthy Barrington area projects.

Barrington Lion and Texas Hold'em Poker Tournament "Pit Boss", Walt Vanau (center), congratulates the first and second place Tournament winners.   Larry Kolber (left) is our first place winner, with a $700.00 prize and Jim Carpenter is our second place winner with $350.00 prize.  Player Larry Kolber is no stranger to the Poker Tournament, as this is the second time he has come up a Hold'em winner.  Proceeds from the Tournament help fund the Barrington Lions Club high school and Eagle Scout Scholarship funds.  Thank you to all who participated in the Tournament and hope to see you at our next event, September 19, 2009. 

Barrington Lion, Steven Floyd (left), and Lion Glenn Engelhardt, get ready to distribute posters to announce the arrival date for the Barrington Lions Club Hearing Test Van.   Free hearing tests will be made available Saturday May 9, 2009, between the hours of 9:00 and 11:00 am.  The van will be parked at the Barrington Jewel Store on west Main Street.   To make a free hearing test appointment, please contact Lion Glenn Engelhardt at 847 381-2070.

Barrington Lion, Glenn Engelhardt (left), accepts the "Lion of the Month" award from Lion President, Tim Howard.  Lion Glenn was presented the award for his coordination of the Barrington Lions Club School District 220 Sight and Sound Program.   Free eye examinations and eye glasses are made available to the neediest school students.  Lion Glenn is also Chairman of the used eye glass collection program.  More the 3,000 pairs of eye glasses are collected each year in the Barrington area and redistributed to countries outside the USA.  Lion Glenn has been a Barrington Lion since 1981. 

Barrington Lions Club President, Tim Howard (right), presents Barrington Lion, Mark Bittle, with the April 09 "Lion of the Month Award".  Lion Mark received the award for his creative work on the Barrington Lions Club Web Site.  Through his efforts, the Web site was brought up to date, made more interactive and easier to use. On March 2nd, 2009, Boy Scout Troop 21 gave a presentation of their scouting activities, to the Barrington Lions Club.  Barrington Lions Club President, Tim Howard, presented Boy Scout Troop 21 Leader, Matt Lasusa, with a check for $1500 to support their scouting programs. In the background are Scouts Tim Scapin, Jake Herb, Karl Eiring and Bobby Todd.

Barrington Lion, Curt Pulkrabek (center) congratulates the Barington Lions Club Texas Hold'em Tournament first place winner, Andy Fick.   Andy knew when to "hold'em" and walked away with the $1,000.00 first prize.  Looking on is second place winner, John Howard, who won $450.00 for his efforts.  Proceeds from the tournament help fund Barrington Lions Club programs, such as School District 220 eyeglass disbursement to the neediest of  students and the Barrington High School student college scholarship fund.  Thank you to all who participated in the January 24, 2009 tournament.  Our next tournament will be held April 25, 2009, at "Docks" in Wauconda, IL.

Lion Dan Evasink, left, accepts the Barrington Lions Club "Lion of the Month Award" from Lion President, Tim Howard.  Lion Dan receive this prodigious award for his outstanding work as the club PIO (Public Information Officer).  It is through Lion Dan's untiring efforts, the Barrington Lions Club has enjoyed the recent recognition it so justly deserves.  "We Serve" could not be a more fitting Lions Club motto.

Barrington Lions Club President, Tim Howard (right), presents the "Lion of the Month Award" to Lion Brian Cecola.  Lion Brian is instrumental in organizing and managing the Barrington 4th of July Brat Tent.  Through Lion Brian's direction, the Brat Tent brings the 4th of July fireworks to the Barrington community.  He also organizes the Brat Tent site preparation, food to be servred, music to be played and all the other responsibilities that go with the title, "4th of July Chairman".

Barrington Lions Club President, Tim Howard (center), congratulates Lion Bill Lee (left) and Lion John Koenen for  their 25 years of community service. Lion Bill and Lion John joined the Club on the same day, November 1, 1983.  Both are past presidents of the Barrington Lions Club and continue to serve.  Lion Bill is on the Club's Board of Directors and Lion John is the Barrington Lions Club Annual Golf Outing Chairman.
